Invisalign is an alternative to traditional metal braces that has been around for over 20 years. It is an orthodontic treatment used for straightening teeth that is more comfortable.  The device is also clear, making it much less visible.  Another advantage of Invisalign is that it can take less time to correct teeth than traditional braces.
 
They are made from BPA-free plastics and are custom created for each patient’s teeth. Invisalign is able to treat overcrowding of teeth, gaps between teeth, overbite, underbite, open bite, and crossbite.

What is the process like?

Similar to traditional metal braces, the Invisalign process begins with a consultation at Talley Dental office to determine whether Invisalign is right for your case.
 
HOW THEY ARE FITTED
After an examination, x-rays, photographs, and a 3-D model of your teeth, a custom treatment plan can be established. At that point, you will receive a clearer idea of how long your treatment will take and how will help your goals for your smile. Next, your custom trays will be created in the Invisalign lab and you’ll pick them up at Dr. Talley's office in Edmond, OK. Dr. Talley may add some small, clear attachments to your teeth to be sure the trays stay in place on the teeth.
 
ONGOING
You’ll make your next follow-up appointment for a few weeks later so Dr. Talley can observe the movement and fit after some time has passed. Your appointments will be much less frequent after that, and you’ll notice your teeth are becoming more aligned as you progress through the different aligner trays.

What are some advantages of Invisalign?

COMFORT & LESS NOTICABILITY
It’s fairly clear that a big benefit of Invisalign is its relative invisibility.  Most people are initially attracted by this advantage. However, there are other benefits that are causing many people to choose this treatment over traditional metal braces. For one, most patients agree that Invisalign is more comfortable for most to wear than braces are. The smooth, plastic trays never poke or scrape the mouth as can happen with braces and many people experience less discomfort from the moving of their teeth.
 
CLEANING & EATING
Another benefit concerns dental hygiene. Although patients still need to use extra care in keeping teeth clean, it is much easier to do so with Invisalign because the trays are easily removeable. Another benefit that a lot of patients get excited about is that there are no diet restrictions for Invisalign treatment. The aligners should be removed for eating and drinking anything besides water, but there is nothing off limits as far as type of food.
 
QUICKER THAN THE TRADITIONAL METHOD
Lastly, especially when worn as instructed, Invisalign typically requires a shorter treatment period and fewer visits throughout the process than traditional braces.

Despite that fact that Invisalign can treat overbite, gaps, and tooth rotation, traditional braces may work better for severe cases of these dental issues. This treatment is also not for people who need teeth raised or lowered, have pegged teeth, or have had certain previous dental work.
 
IS YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER READY?
Another important factor, especially in adolescents is their willingness to wear the aligner trays for at least 22 hours daily. Oral and periodontal health are also important considerations before deciding on Invisalign. Anyone planning to use Invisalign should begin the process from a place of good oral health and be sure to learn how to care for their teeth and keep aligners in good condition before starting treatment.
