Inlays
Dental inlays are a method of dealing with tooth decay that can be used when a simple filling (javascript:void(0))is not enough, but a more drastic method, like a complete crown (javascript:void(0))is not necessary. They are placed on the grooves of your teeth to take care of cavities and are pre-molded to fit and keep your bite feeling natural.
Inlays are made of tooth-colored ceramic, porcelain, or a dental resin composite, so they look natural, too.
For most inlay procedure, an anesthetic injection is used to decrease discomfort for the patient. After the decayed portion of the tooth is removed and the area is sufficiently cleaned out, Dr. Jamie Talley may apply a temporary filling before the inlay is ready to be bonded.
On the day of the inlay attachment, you may need another anesthetic shot. Then, the temporary filling is removed and the inlay is applied and bonded to your tooth. Dr. Talley can make adjustments, if needed, at this time as well.
After receiving and inlay, it is important to stay away from hard, sticky foods, like hard candies, gum, or ice. In addition, you should not eat or drink, especially hot foods or beverages until the numbness from the anesthesia has completely gone to prevent dribbles on clothing or accidentally burning yourself.
At this point, you may experience some discomfort and sensitivity in your teeth. Discomfort from the procedure and the anesthetic injection can be treated by rinsing with salt water and through over-the-counter pain medication. However, tooth sensitivity may last up to a few months after the procedure. If your bite feels off or you experience any sharp pain, you should call the Talley Dental office.
